Captivated pupil!

Jacques tells us that he chose to give up a work as a chemical engineer and to take up  raising goats to make cheese and to spend longer with his family.  He likes to meet school groups, as conversation with goats may not be as interesting!

Milk gets its flavour from the food eaten by the goats. Pasteurisation standardises the flavour, so he does not want to pasteurise or sterilise it. Also he wants the the goats to choose their own food... So he does not want to keep them penned in.

, Now the difference between French and English milk tops.  In France red topped milk is.full fat ..blue semiskimmed.. Yellow unpasteurised.

La gestation ..pregnancy.. 5 months..this is when goats produce milk.

How do they produce milk?
Rumination...

They swallow food, cereals and put in their first stomach
When full, they bring food into the mouth..they cheese swallow and put into second stomach..then again and into third stomach. What a goat's life!.. 8 hours eating.. 8 hours ruminating... 8 hours sleep.  To be continued!

Coach status!

Coaches A and D just caught the earlier ferry and are likely to reach school around 8.  Coaches B and C are still waiting to board the 18:50...
